noise of air valve???

Hi there.
my car runs great ,all good . the only problem is the air valve<idle valve on intake > . it does a wistling noise at idle . if I turn the screw to stop the noise but than the idle is  no good . what can or should I do?

Hi Erick - is the hose connected allright? I never heard about this problem before. Is the air flap in the intake manifold adjusted right (closed at idle to the point of almost binding)?

I had a similar air noise on my '67 250SL... an almost hard to define turn of the air valve adjustment screw by the Injectors, resolved the problem. It was very, very sensitive and it took a barely noticable turn of the screw - not even a 32nd of a turn!

by air valve < not sure how to call it >.it is the valve by the throttle plate on the intake . the noise is like it sucks to much air <alot of vacuum>.

I had the very same problem about 8 years ago.  A mechanic who is no longer in the area said he "cleaned" the throttle, and it was good for 8 years, but now it's started again.  The mechanic has left, and I'm not sure what he cleaned.  Adjusting the air screw can minimize the noise at idle, but then it just returns with a different pitch with the throttle cracked open on light accelleration.
