part number question

I was going thru the old recepts my dad had for my 66 230.
there is a recept for
113 270 01 01 88 Gear box $1,989.  from 8/97


I am wondering if he had a tranny put in?  the cost is low, maybe it is a used item?

in 200 there is a recept for a tune up that indicates metal shavings in the tranny pan.  

I am just about ready to just pull the tranny and have it rebuilt out of frustration due to lack of info.

I would not do that.

Have someone reputable check the transmission out for proper operation.

I had very frustrating experiences with mine. Noises, leaks, skipping gears.

I took it to two different shops to get the work done right.

Joe,
no real issues,  sometimes the shifts are rough, especially when coming to a stop,
also, the shif plate inside the car gets hot, well really more very warm than hot.

I am more concerned with the metal shavings found in the tranny oil pan the last time the oil was changed.

heard back from gernold at sl tech on this.
the part is a rebuilt tranny that mb had on sale at the time.

I guess this is good news, however, I am still concerned about the service note regarding the metal shavings in the tranny filter pan.

This is often fixed by properly adjusting the flap in the venturi.  My car was slamming those down shifts until I was at Joe Alexander's one day.  He spent about 90 seconds adjusting that flap for proper closure and the hard down shifts were gone!

Rodd,
pulled the venturi post and checked the venturi setting on my car.
well, the set screw was backed out so far that it was not engaging the linkage at all.

I guess I will find the linkage adjustment post and check the linkages

I have the print outs for the linkage adjustment, I still have yet to double check the linkage settings.
I will reply with the findings once I am done
