Rear Window HELP

After putting the side windows in the hard top and putting the new leather on the back shealf, I start to put the rear window in. I used automotive strip caulk in the bottome, puth the new Mercedes rubber seal around the glass. Compared to the issues with the side windows the glass seemed to seat in fairly easily.

I now hm trying to put the molding in but itseems very dificult. It seems the edge of the rubber needs to fit into the trim piece. Any ideas how to get the rubber in there? Also it seems there is not so much holding the glass into place, as the trim only has two screws at the bottom. I am no sure the tabs at the top hold it that much.

I wonder if the chrome trim has to be inserted into the rubber before installing into the hard top? bit like how the front windscreen chrome is mounted.

Daryl,
If you mean the large rear glass on the hardtop.  That glass is held in by the rubber strip much like the front windshield.  The difference is the rubber strip does not have a groove for the chrome plated brass strips, like the front with the polished anodised aluminum trim.
The rear goes in without any trim and then the trim covers it.  The two pieces like angles go into the clips provided and the very ends near the bottom are held by screws.  The large bow shaped one then goes over the base of the hardtop-held by small screws underneath, while going under a small lip in the rubber seal right below the glass.  This is a very difficult maneuver as it requires patience and perseverance.

I have a car here with a heated rear window. Anyone know how rare that might be?

Dan,
It is not common, but also not uncommon to see the heated rear window hardtops.  I have seen quite a few of the heated hardtops, but all of them on the 280 series.  I have not seen any for the 230 or 250.

It seems to me the rubber comes to a point at the edge. The trim is similar to the Windsheild trim. It seems it should fit in there. I was able to get the glass in but the trim did not go in all the way. that is when I tried to get the edge of the rubber to nest into the trim

Thanks Walt. I sort of thought it was a feature more common on late cars.
