Window Problem
« on: September 18, 2006, 11:13:21 »
Yesterday as my son was closing the passenger side door I heard a clunk. When I asked him to roll the window down it would not go down all the way. The window will go up all the way with no problem.  Has this happen to anyone else and what do I need to do to correct this problem?

Hi Pferg. It sounds like the window jaw mechanism has come loose. Many have had this problem. You will need to do some exploratory surgery to be sure. Have you ever removed the interior door panel? If not, don't fret. It is not difficult, it just takes some time. I am hoping somewhere in our archives is a step-by-step on how this is done. I can probably describe it since I've done it a zillion times but I may forget a step or two...

In the mean time, don't force anything -- the glass will shatter and you will have made things a lot worse!

Pferg. Take a look at in our archives (search window, etc). I think there is also a good How-to on the Pagoda113 site. In the meantime I can e-mail you with how I do it -- but give me a little time. Darn college kids keep asking me things... (librarian...don't ya know)

Look at this as an opportunity to clean up & re-grease the window regulator mechanism and door locks. It gets grungy in there after a couple decades. And think of it this way -- a window regulator is hundreds and hundreds of dollars, so it pays to take care of it while everything is apart.
