After a little over a year I have my 230sl back running and on the road.

If anyone remembers,  I bought it from an ad here back in June of 05.

Wow, from the photos on your blog, looks like it was quite a project.  Good for you for saving a car that could have ended up at the junk yard.  Can't wait to see a photo of the finished product.

Finally got a few pics of the finished car.
Posted on www.bill230sl.blogspot.com
I'm in the process of getting the bumper, one plastic headlight door and the small Mercedes hood badge.  Other than that, I think it turned out great.
Next project is my dad's 1929 model A coupe.  Wish me luck

Hello Bill,
Congratulations, well done.
One little thing to mention ... It looks as if your car has (incorrect) 13" inch wheels & rims instead of 14 inch.
The 13" are from the W110/111 sedans. SLs have their own 14" rims or later the ones from the W108.
They can be found.
Best,

That's it Achim! I was looking and looking at the side image trying to figure out what seemed different than usual, and it could very well be the wheels being an inch too small.

Hey, Bill did an amazing job geting this car back on the road.  Those may or may not be the correct wheels, but let's not let a small issue detract from what he has accomplished.  It is very likely to discourage him and others from participating in this forum.

Yes Pete (and Bill),
You are right.   We do not want to be picky here.
My apologies to Bill.
Very well done, Pete. Please keep us informed about any progress or news on your car.

Thanks for input people.
Re: The wheels
They are 14" but 175/70r14 so they run a little small.
I needed tires for the original rims and found them on a local auction.  They were used as evidence in a criminal case against a robbery (stolen tires).  Purchased for $50 all four brand new.   I figure I can use them until I get the correct ones.
