230SL fuel line from IP to damper
« on: October 21, 2006, 10:46:33 »
Hello all,
I need to replace the fuel return line from the injection pump to the damper (braided rubber hose) but it is no longer available for the 230SL at DC or other vendors. I am trying to find a suitable replacement hose with the correct ID and plan to reuse the fittings from the old. But the ones that I found are not rated for injection lines.
I hope someone can let me know please what the pressure limit for such a hose must be, or better, where one can buy one with the correct ID.  The metal pipe attached to the IP has an OD of 8 mm (see picture), so I guess anything from 7.5 to 8 mm ID should work.
The old hose has a braided lining - I was told for fire retardation and heat protection. Is that necessary also for newer hoses?

Thanks Matt,
I'll call Cheryl on Monday I hope she has the correct line. Because on their web site it shows that part # 111-476-1326 is "not in system". I need the one that does NOT have the banjo plug at the end but goes straight into a male/male coupler.

Hello Alfred,

Modern injection fuel line will handle over 100psi. Your Pogoda system runs at about 14psi. However all lines should be rated for at least 40psi, since this is the max pressure produced by the electric fuel pump if a fuel return line should become clogged.

Any Mercedes dealer or autoparts store can sell you lengths of fuel injection fuel hose in bulk. You have three choices as I see it. You can search for an original or reproduction, you can have hydraulic sevice shop remake the line by crimping  a new hose onto your original fitting. In a pinch you can make a diaganol cut accross the metal crimp with a hack saw, carefully peel the metal crimp off the fitting and clamp a new section of fuel injection hose to the fitting. Away you go!

The configuration of modern hoses are different from the "fabric over" on the originals. Improved sythetic rubber and high strength fibers in the weave of the hose made the original "fabric over" design obsolete in most cases.

Alfred,
after looking at your photo, the line you indicated with the arrow is exactly what I received from cheryl.

one end is basically fuel line, the other has the fitting to connect to the fuel dampner.

the line then connects to the metal line that goes up and bends over to a banjo fitting that connects to the top of the injection pump.

cheryl will be able to sell you what you are looking for, just be sure to be accurate to describe the part Also, you can e-mail her the post or the photo you attached.

Matt,
you were correct, K&K has the part. The new number - in case someone else needs it - is: 128 476 0726, and it comes with CAD-yellow fittings.

And Joe thanks for the pressure info. If K&K didn't have the part I would have gone the "built-it-yourself" route; for example, GATES makes a 8mm (5/16 inch) fuel line that will fit.
