Anyone know this photo?
« on: October 20, 2006, 18:44:55 »
Hello.  This photo was given to me on a CD by someone several years ago.  Does anyone recognize it?  I would like to use it in Pagoda World 8 (almost done!), but I don't know who to credit it to!

A fun photo. I would think you'd want to crop out the hood in the foreground and the tree in the background.

Sorry, Douglas, have to disagree.

To me, the tree in the background with its reflection on the hood in the foreground are what make this an interesting photograph. Take those away and it becomes a rather conventional photo of the rear end of a nice Pagoda, although I do like the shadow of the car on the berm to the right.

Just my opinion.

Ed,

I agree that a tree coming out of the center of the car is unconventional.

(I can't help but wonder what Jaape thinks.)

I agree that the tree in the background is what makes this image unconventional, and removing it would make the image unremarkable. However in my humble opinion it is not a particularly pleasing image; the motion blur and general sense of speed simply clash with the static tree, and as such find it uneasy to look at. Perhaps it would work better if the tree itself was bigger and more pleasing in shape; it might warrant the contrast better.

If I *had* to use this image, I would straighten it a little, so that it no longer drops to the right:

I would say that the photo is great as it stands and any modification or "Perfecting" of the image would be like taking a pagoda body and putting it on a modern sl frame (or using modern hoseclamps on an engine bay).  I also respect the work and time , new and old editors put into this publcation, if they like it its their baby.  Festering over nuances in image alignment will delay publication for months,  I think Rodd just wants to make sure the photo isn't "stolen"

I'm no "artist" by any meaning of the word, so all these opinions on the photo are interesting to me.

That said, Peter hit on exactly what I'm looking for.  Any ideas, anyone?

The original file name is "Pago amb SL nou2.jpg", so if it looks familiar to you please search your hard drives or e-mail and see if you know who created it, or who published it.  Google came up empty.

Thanks!

I can't tell you who photographed it for certain, but I've seen "SMM844" many times on the Web. I have always assumed it's part of the Classic Center's collection as many of the pix are with a late-model SL and appear to be part of a professional photo shoot. You'll see many pix of it at:

OK, I spend about 1.5 hours on-line at the DaimlerChrysler media archvies and I did find two pictures of this car with this license plate.  Not the picture I have, but two others.  That's enough for me, I'm going to credit the photo to DCAG Media Archives, as I so everything I use from there.

Thanks for the tip, Douglas!
