Pagoda tire wedge made from wood?
« on: October 23, 2006, 20:17:07 »
Here is an interesting Pagoda part :
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=017&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=270044329689&rd=1&rd=1
Was this really "original equipment"?
To me it looks like just another smart aleck on eBay trying to find a sucker [:0]

Hello Alfred,

I am very doubtful it is original. Mercedes would have at least painted it and put a part number on it somewhere. They were all metal as far as I know.

The one in my trunk is metal and is stamped.
This auction is a bit bizarre. But perhaps they made some in an optional wooden trim???

Considering the function of the part only: There is no reason why the wedge can not be made of wood, or plastic. Or you can use a limb from a tree. A nice touch is the stud to fasten the wedge so that it doesn't get lost. It ought to be worth one Euro? I had a wooden rear bumper on a Datsun wagon once: Carved into it was: "Mom's car". It was very functional. Much better than today's painted vinyl bumpers. It hardly showed any bumps.

It is not the function that I found somewhat hilarious but the fact that he claims it to be an "original" part - and a "ratity": Sie bieten auf eine absolute Rarität  ...  Der original Holzkeil für die Mercedes-Benz Pagode !!
On the other hand it might look good together with an old wooden wheel that serves as a spare  :D
