Rear end noise when making sharp right turn
« on: June 18, 2007, 21:36:28 »
1967 230SL -  When you turn the steering wheel all the way to the right and start slow and pick up speed a sensation starts and is repetitive. A thumping noise starts and continues. You can feel the thumping. It is not a wining sound.  More of a thump.  Car has new radials.  It sounds like it is coming from the corner.  Does not occur when you turn to left.  Note:  Car has been fitted with Allow rims.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Rich,

I assume you did not hear this sound prior to the new tires.  Are the tires too wide so that they rub on the inside of the fender well?  Take the tire off and see if there are wear marks on the inner fender and tire surface.

You could try turning left instead. Eventually, you will find your way back home ~ )
