almost started

Hello all

I finished installing the following items in my 66 230 sl, fuel injected
rebuilt motor from metric motors, rebuilt inj pump from hans at H&R with tested R1 injectors and a new bosch sr59x starter.

everything is all hooked up and the motor turns over.  it started once, ran for a bit then it died.   The next day it tried to start then it died again.   today it would not catch.

I pulled the plugs and they were carbon fouled so I cleaned them, checked the dwell via feeler gage and set the timing so the crank was at tdc and rotror was at the mark on the distro.

it just does not seem to want to start.   thoughts? hans at H&R said the inj pump should be set so no need to adjust it.

thanks
matt

remove the distributor cap and check for the direction of rotation on the rotor when the engine cranks. your firing order(ie the layout of the plug wires) should correspond to this rotation.

well, do I feel stupid.

after much thought and discussion with co workers , came home , double checked the timing etc.
pulled the tech data book, and of course, the sl timing static is between 5 and 8 deg B TDC.

I was setting the distro at TDC.

re set the timing to 5 deg BTDC and it started right up..

thanks again
