Kangol seat belt replicas on ebay

Just saw this on ebay: black kangol style seat belts (shoulder style) to replace 113's.  Price is $295 'buy it now' or bid.

The guy seems to have 100% positive feedback.  He makes them himself, apparently.  Here's the ad copy:

'pair of KANGOL magnetic seatbelts so nice and clean that you will think that you are opening some NOS belts for the 63-71 mercedes like originals made in england by kangol ,very nice and function as originals. The webbing is all new 4 panel and close match to the original webbing that it was cut to length from. ...'

I sent him an email about brown or tan belts, but he said he didn't have many requests for other colors so he has not purchased the material to make them.

Does anyone know of a better source?  I sent an email to the person referenced in another post as a refurbisher ('chev_camino@hotmail.com') but I never heard back from him.

Can a local reupholster do it?

I'm not sure if originality is your interest, but I thought it's worth pointing out that the Kangol belts didn't originally come in other colors. I believe they were only available in black.

There's been some talk of seatbelts in this forum before. I recall some outfit on the Web offers a modern repro part. I seem to remember "lizard" or "snakeoil" or some other reptilian word in the company's name.....

I have bought kangol belts from sbcr last summer and I
am very happy.
The belts webbing is exellent.The hardware that came with the belts
also very well restored.I also gave him positive feedback.
As for answering Email he did respond to my questions.
My original belts were black.

Are the belts you bought from this eBay seller 2-point or 3-point belts?  It looks like this auction Bruce listed is for 2-point lap belts.  I would like to get brown/tan 3-point retractable belts as well, I just think black would look odd.  My wife is looking at a new BMW X3 and it has black belts with a light tan interior!  Looks bad even on a new car.

I checked, and my original belts are also black -- just a little faded.  The ebay belts are the 3-point lap and shoulder kind.

I like the idea of replicas, since they should be easier to install.  I believe that retractables require another hole (a total of 4 (3 for retractor and bracket), compared to the original's 2+1).  The extra hole may be located somewhere in the back under the removable platform (as far as I can tell from the previous posts).

Previous posters believe that if adjusted properly, the original 3-point Kangol's should be as safe as retractables.

Also, when buying retractables, make sure that the receptacle end is short enough to just come up to the side of the seat.  I made the mistake of buying a "guaranteed fit" retractable from an outfit who wouldn't take them back (the receptacle was too long, it sits over my kidney).

I found another site, http://store.gotbelts.com/style.html -- who will to do a retractable in choice of color and length.  They offer either 110" or 145" lengths, and 6, 9, 12 or 18" receptacle side.  Don't know much about them, but they seem to know what they're talking about.

Bruce, I got my belts from this guy a couple years ago from ebay.   Don't remember spending that much...but it was a good experience.

The only difference is the emblem sticker on the latch isn't the same as my original belts.

Does anyone have a pic or can give a measurment for the location of the lap belts mounting brackets on the floor. My '63 230SL has never had seat belts nor is there any pre-drilled holes for the mounts. Also, I do not want the retractable type. I want to buy the belts & the floor reinforcment plates from Andover Co. but need to know the location for the mounts before I purchase them.

I thought all the cars had the mounts, but yours is a '63 so that may not be true?

The early '63 230SL's did not have mounting holes as confirmed with Ray Paul of Buds Benz. My 230 SL is body #000312, Chassis #000319. So I still need the correct mounting location on the floorpan.
