Before you close the lid you have to make sure that you have the geared screws for the top latching turned all the way in. They will stick up too high if you don't and press against the top cover.

All the hinges on the soft top frame need to be oiled about every year. Use something that won't stain the fabric and just use a small amount. I use a product made by AMS/OIL called MP ( metal protector ) that can doubble as spray and wash for your greasy cloths in the washing machine. It won't hurt fabric.

If you have a top that leaks water right through the material when it rains you have  POS material on it. I've never seen one leak like that. Tops I sell are Electron but I've used other companies.

To make water bead off the top, I can recommend Wolfstein's RaggTopp cleaner and protectant. Far better than the tent water proofing spray that was recommended by my MB dealer years ago. Still, even without this coating, my top never leaked water, I suppose thanks to this water-barrier-sandwich-construction.
