That probably explains how they originally got the soft top to fit in the compartment and then get the boot closed, too!  ;^)

Volkswagen couldn't sell the Beetle in Africa. Too unsafe - they found out that elephants make love to anything with a trunk in front.

... and if the Hardtop had times not fit, the Mercedes-Engineers knew themselves to help.
