Part ID question
« on: January 06, 2007, 23:07:12 »
I need some help identifying and explaining the purpose of a part for my 1964 230sl (4 speed manual)

I've attached a jpg that shows the component in the upper right corner (this is not my car, I used the Aussie '64 pix).  I have heard this called two things (a dashpot and a decel valve); whatever it is, I've been told I need one.

Any assistance in identifying this component, explaining its purpose and possibly locating one will be greatly appreciated.

Hello Steve,

Some 230SLs have been provided with this non-vacuum dashpot. The unit should be adjusted so that the linkage arm travels 4mm -5mm before it lifts off the pin of the dashpot. It dampens sudden throttle release, most likely to prevent stalls.
