Just bought a 230SL last week and although it is in generally good condition it has a few small problems needing sorting. Most are simple trim related issues and will not take major work to put right. I guess this may have been asked many times in the forum but based in Singapore I do not have local parts suppliers to rely on and will need to ship everything in myself. There seems to a large number of suppliers on the internet, can anyone recommend a reliable one with reasonable prices in the US or Europe?

One specific problem that needs immediate attention is the headlight switch. The previous owner's last comment to me handing over the keys was "You will need to replace the headlight switch". True enough the headlights don't switch on and the switch does seem in need of replacement. The full beam does work when I try the 'flasher', so I assume it is the switch at fault. Before ordering a new one, I wanted to pull out the old one to test it, hopefully without disconnecting it. It seems almost impossible to get my hand under the dashboard to reach it, let alone pull it free underneath. Is there any easy way to do this without having to remove half the dashboard?

For now I am limited to daytime driving only. Any advice would be appreciated.

Regards
Ti

Hello Ti,
Be sure to check the fuses and high beam switch on the floor first.
Disconnect the battery. Remove the underdash panel if it is still in place. Next remove the two phillips screws holding bracket with the two large wiring harness plugs. This assembly can be moved out of the way now for access to the switch. The knob on the switch pulls straight outward and off. The chrome bezel under this knob unscrews and releases the switch. These switches were the same in some mercedes sedans of that era.

Tim - welcome to the group and congratulations on your purchase. As for parts suppliers, take a moment to check out below link to our vendor database that is on the homepage:

http://sl113.org/data/show_table.asp?table_name=usr_parts_and_service_suppliers

You can also get there by clicking on the top left blue area ("W113 Pagoda SL Group") on this page, then click on the "databases" option in the navigation menu. While you're there, you can also check out some of the other links, for example to the technical articles, where you may find many answers to your questions.

Good luck on the switch - a new one costs around 55 euro, or $50 at Van Dijk here in the Netherlands. They ship worldwide.
