Hi Ricardo,

The broken parts in the picture appear to be: the lever, return spring, and mounting stud, that the cold start solenoid acts on to push the rack forward (see upper part of picture). Although not ideal, if the pump now rotates, there's no obvious other damage, and you've cleaned out all the debris, you could try running it again?  You've just lost your cold start enrichment, that's all.  Maybe you can still enjoy the rest of your "top-down" season, and worry about a rebuild in the winter!

Mission accomplished!
Had the bush and gear out last nite. The new bush seems to have a little stub on the bronze (bottom) plate (Joe's pictures). On the one I took out, this stub had completely worn away and the gear had cut a groove in the base of the bronze. Also from the wear on the gear it seems that only 2/3 of the height was engaging. It had the dark coloring of nitriding, and not as badly worn as the one in Joe's pictures.I used two compressed and heat treated (as in second hand) injector washers to take up the end play.

Thanks to everyone for all the guidance. I think you are right about the lever Will, and nothing seems broken just came apart somehow, although the main lever seems to bind a little, may have been bent slightly, the pump now turns freely. I don't have the oil check valve, my line mounts directly to the pump and is of smallish dia. (less than 1/4") yet the BBB says for my pump, R18, that it was the next version (R18y) that dropped the oil check valve, followed by the R18z for US emissions. I feel like Sherlock Holmes, "Watson hand me that wench". Today I have to deal with the other bad MB, my 190E wants to idle at 1500 or surge up and down like a rodeo horse, BIG SIGH

An update on this story; my old pump has gone off to Dan's (Benz Dr.) to be looked at or recycled for parts. He has another used pump available at a very good price, which he's sending off to his inj. guy to check out, along with my old injectors to be tested, and possibly my old pump if it seems fixable.
Not only is Dan there to help us figure things out, but he has new and used parts too. Along with Joe Alexander,  these guys make it possible for us to be involved in or at least understand what needs to be done. Knowledge is power, thanks for sharing it.

What? 190E with an idle speed of 1,500 ? That's the idle speed control regulator . I sell rebuilt units all the time but mostly for cars like 380 Sl's.

  I took the pump to my fuel injection guy and I'll know what the verdict is in a few days.

Ok It's some months later, but I thought I should do a final wrap up of this thread and share the results of the combined efforts to sort this one out.
The final conclusion from both Dan and his pump guy was that somehow I had one of those 1/10,000 type failures or that someone who previously worked on the pump had failed to properly locate the enrichment plunger that Will referred to and over time this piece became fatigued and broke. The governor mechanism was ruined but the plungers were fine and Dan's pump guy(Pat) was able to rebuild my pump using some parts from Dan. The main dist. drive shaft, part of a two shaft set, was actually twisted by the force involved and I ended up replacing both of these shafts and the large chain sprocket driven by the timing chain. Installation went well and I didn't have to pull the timing chain. I have put on approx. 5000 miles since and have had no further problems. This is in large part due to the great advice and help I received from folks on this list. I'll include a  photo to show the shaft damage. Note how the keyway in the sprocket has been completely filled by the metal shaved off the woodruff key....in fact it is impossible to tell where the keyway was!

I spent an evening at Pat and Heather's place a few weeks ago. Really very nice folks.

 He told me that they made almost all of the test equipment that's needed to do these pumps. Since they're Bosch dealers they have access to the test stuff from the company. Some of the old stuff used vials or beakers to measure each injector but they use a state of the art electronic system which is faster and far more accurate.
I think they will become THE place to have your pump done before long.

This is a great write-up and pictures on the gear assy for tach, distributor, FI pump!!!  

Is there a life expectancy for this bushing?  I am wondering if I even need to worry on an engine with 134K miles that has been well cared for?
