Main Harness Query
« on: February 26, 2007, 10:34:54 »
Hello everyone,

Here's the story, I've recently begun a restoration project with my father on his '63 230sl. The car was imported from Great Britain so the steering wheel is on the right side of the car. I say this because I need to source out and replace the main harness that leads from the battery to the rest of the car's electricals, and I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not there are different set-ups depending on steering configuration. Maybe this is an ignorant question but hey I'm new at this. Thanks for reading and please post if anyone knows anything...I live in Toronto, Ontario Canada, so if there are any experienced MB restorers in the area that anyone knows about please let me know as well. Thanks again.

Jean-Claude,
Welcome to the Group (goes for your father, too!).  The most commonly referred to source for wiring harness material is Rhode Island Wiring.  They probably know what you need for a RHD car.  They can be found on our Parts & Service Suppliers database:
http://www.sl113.org/data/show_table.asp?table_name=usr_parts_and_service_suppliers

If you want references to their work, just do a Search here (link in top right corner) for "Rhode Island".

thanks for the info matt and rodd, i'll check out both companies and update later...my father was suggesting swapping out the stock bulbs with HID's...a modification that I am not wild about but willing to experiment on...do you have any ideas/suggestions for this kind of job? I'm sure there's some way to wire in the ballasts I'm just not sure what all is involved.

I guess we can take a head light detour in a wiring harness thread   ;)

Are you head lights Euro or USA style?  For Euro style, you can get halogen bulbs.  For USA style, there's probably mention of something in these threads.  I found them using the Search tool (link in top right corner of screen).
