Thanks for the reply Jeff I have ordered three different sets of points from a vendor. The set that works I will use and the set that does not I will sell on ebay. I think a good page for maintenance consumables of each vintage would be a helpful addition to the W113 SL Group It is spring tune-up time! I put fresh spark wires (much needed) in my car The correct wires for my 1969 280SL are 1000 Ohm resistance. My car had incorrect 5000 ohm wires on it that were shot. If you have the steel spark plug wire ends you can look to see if it says 1K or 5K it will be stamped in the metal jacket end. The car ran great for a while but then it ate the next weakest link in the chain...the somewhat tired points! When doing a spring tune up it is a good idea to replace it all at the same time. Oh and for you driveway mechanic weekend warriors make sure your key is in the off position when you monkey with the points or you will fry your condenser don't ask me how I know! My weekend will be spent looking at instead of driving in my Pagoda.

Ernie,
You didn't say what the Bosch distributor # was?
Hence the conflicting numbers.

The distributor #0231116051 on my car is the cast iron one with the notch in the cap. Thank you for your help Naj! The lobes look a little worn where the plastic/nylon rubs on the shaft of distributor does anyone have a micrometer measurement for this? I have a parts car in the garage and the distributor looks different but I will put a mic on it just for the heck of it. I am also going to break out the BBB and check...and yes I know how to use the search button but just thought someone might have checked this recently. Thanks for your help Naj and Jeff. :?

I can't tell you the numbers right now but there's basically three different types:
early vacuum advance 230SL types
late 230,250 and early 280SL with cast iron dist.
280SL late with aluminum distributor.
I've been told that certain Ford vehicals use the same points as the late 280SL. Probably Capri or something like that.

Hi. Can any of you Bosch part wizards tell me about the points that end in -082? For example, the entire number if you have it -- and what distributor these are designed for...Thanks.

James,
1 237 013 082 appears on the top post by Isofast.
Maybe it fits late 280 SLs but....
According to literature I have, it fits a BMW 2002 and BMW 520 upto 1977 and a whole host of Euro Fords and Opels etc. No Mercs listed.
