SOFT TOP
« on: April 07, 2007, 18:11:54 »
Hi All

Beautiful Easter weekend here in London....
Hard top off & out with the soft top , all looking great .
However , how do you all recommend keeping the corners of the canvas down ?
The soft top is under a year old .
Should I make the corners wet / damp & put a weight on it for a while , as its kept
in the garage ?

Hey Kemal. I haven't quite figured out how to "prevent" the curl but what I do to correct it is: just before I latch the back of the top, I firmly grip the corner edges and hold them in a reverse curl for a moment or two. This seems to help them get back to level. Hope this helps.

To prevent that curl: When you put the top down, reach in and fold the part that is curled now, down besides the fender well. The reason it is curled, is that it has been laying on top of the fender well and taken a set. You have to lift the top up a bit to do that.

As the engineer suggests, tucking the corners underneath the frame when storing the top will definitely cure the folding up problem. Takes a bit of doing, and having hands that are not too massive helps. My car had the corners turned up all the way for several years, and just one week of the correct treatment cured that condition.
