Trivia - who started this? Source of "BBB"
« on: August 31, 2003, 00:10:07 »
Just out of curiosity, I tried to find out who started the abbreviation "BBB" - for Big Blue Book, more officially known as the Mercedes Workshop Manual. Here's the earliest reference to it that I was able to find on the Yahoo! site. It was in a post by David Pease:

"The "Big Blue Bible" is available as a two-volume reprint from MBZ
(with a grey cover!). I have compared the reprint to the original I
bought from a member of this group, and the contents seem identical.
If I remember correctly, the reprint was about $70US. You may
occasionally find an original on eBay, though I don't think it
particularly matters.

The "BBB" has considerably more detail for certain jobs than my Hayes
manual, though as Don notes, it does cover several models and
sometimes doesn't quite seem to fit my car. My theory is: the more
information you have, the more likely you are to find what you need."

Is David the person who first coined this abbreviation?

Well I'm afraid he is.  He admitted this to me a while back.  He can't stand up for himself right now, he is vacationing in Italy. 8)
