Originally planning to replace wood trim I ventured into the dashboard, I now find myself becoming braver and more ambitious in my plans. Reading your posts about the work and how to do it has given me some confidence to attack more projects there.
Wood replacement with Heritage woodworks (didn't want to refinish myself, wood too bad)
Send clock, and instruments out for refurbish (probably Palo Alto unless other suggestions)
Lubricate the wiper apparatus (which works fine but is loud from the joint friction)
Recover vinyl pieces on dashboard (probably will have a pro do this one)
Replace steering wheel with new one and new pad
Clean/grease heater control levers and cables (obtain new original if possible)
Install slimface Becker TR radio and new center speaker
Is there anything else reasonable to add? I feel reluctant to approach the heater box. How hard is it?
Is there a way to make the fan blower switch not squeak when turned? It doesn't seem to open at all.
This is all frustrating work in tight spaces, but it feels good to finally get around to it. The dashboard and controls are very important to the overall experience of the vehicle. Improving this portion of the car would likely be appreciated by any owners who have not yet ventured there. I know that if I ever purchase another w113 that I will consider the condition of the dashboard apparatus more carefully.
