On Line Parts Catalog
« on: January 26, 2007, 08:33:30 »
Copied from the 190SL Group Forum:
"Mercedes has slashed the annual price of the online EPC to $24 for worldwide models!!!!!!!

Go to www.Startekinfo.com/epc

I just signed up and it is a big flakey but works. G wagons, classics, 190SLs, 300SLs, Unimogs.......

Many thanks to Tom Hanson at the Classic Center in LA for letting me know about the change!"

Worth looking into.  With the current part number, you can use the Duval dealertship to save on classic center parts.

Looks pretty cool, but it says that a subscription is needed. The site information lists a one year US subscription for $20 and worldwide for $24. Sounds like a heck of a bargain, actually.

I have just spent most of the evening looking through the parts listings for my 230sl in the EWA catalog. It is very cool.

One question, what are the red part numbers?

Are these parts that are only available through the Classics Center?

Can any dealer order them?

OK, that's 3 questions.

Thanx
Al

Has anyone been to EPC online site lately? I'm thinking of subscribing since the yearly fee is a measly $20. But when I checked for subscription and was about to put my credit card info I noticed that it is not a "verisign" or "secure" site (not https).

Can anyone please confirm and validate this site:

Thanks,

Andy

Andy:

I just checked the site and did NOT get the "https://" address indicating a secure connection (or the little lock in the lower right corner of your browser.  I cannot speak for this particular site one way or the other, however...

My recommendation:  never EVER send any personal information including credit card info to a site that does not use a secure socket.  Even if they seem to be, or you know them to be a legitimate company.  It's not about the trustworthyness of the company per se, but the security of your data once you hit Send.  For more info on SSL and https check out:  http://www.windowsecurity.com/articles/Secure_Socket_Layer.html

Thanks Steve. I understand the "https" feature which led to my concern. Perhaps a call to Tom at Classic Center is the next step to get me signed up to this site without going the credit card route.

Well, that is if the site is legitimate. Can anyone confirm?

I sent my card info and joined the EPC online. No unexplained charges have shown up on my card.

The site is Veri Sign. The logo appears after you submit.
