« on: July 31, 2007, 19:12:26 »
I got a deap noise on acceleration and desceleration from the diff and a little play at the diff . since I have the outer pignon bearing on hand can I try my luck and replace it with the diff still on the car?or do I have to do a compleate teardown?

Erick,

You can replace the outer bearing. But do not over torque it. Making it too tight will cause a lot of noise. These tappered  bearings will bind if tightened too far. I sort of doubt that this will solve the problem.  Is it possible that someone in the past has overtightened the slotted pinion nut?

I've never removed one but since Joe says you can remove it from the front and the description says its a tapered bearing held in place by the slotted nut it should come out easily.  (I hope?)
