Controllever heatervalve

As I am working on the heater system I have a problem. I'm putting everything back together but the controllever of the heater valve which works when the left of the 2 seperate airlids is operated seems too long. Allthough it came out, I cannot put it back together without obstructing the left lid to close completely, it seems the shaft is too long. Should I make it shorter or is there a way to adjust? Any help is welcome

The control arm for the air flap is adjustable.  It is made up of the same parts used for the gas pedal/FIP linkage.

That is exactly what I mean. The middlepiece is indeed adjustable and to my insight you first screw it as far as possible into the upper part and then unscrew it so it enters into the lower part. But then it's too long and obstructs the lid to close entirely. I now found that the ball cup for operating the heat exchanger is removable on the plastic lid (MB 230 1963-1968 owners workshop manual p.155)

Why is it that it worked all right before you took it apart? And sometimes, someone installs the wrong part. Maybe you have a control arm in there that was too long to start with. You can buy "threaded rod" The size is 10-24 and make a shorter arm for a test. That way, you don't cut the original part, if you wanted to re-use it.

I don't know it ever worked well as I bought the car and immediately took it apart for complete restoration. I'll try a shorter threaded rod first before attempting to pry it apart Peter.

Is it possible that the lever on the heater control valve in incorrectly installed?
If I remember correctly, there is a slot for the lever in the sleeve part of the valve  :?:
