Vince,

That is one good looking engine.  Congratulations....very well done.  What are some of the specific cleaners, conditioners, polishes, protectants, secrets, etc. that you use to maintain the ways the engine looks?

Cheers and thanks,

I have never used anything but soap and water or citrus degreaser for maintenance.  If I had a repair to a specific item and it was greasy, I used paint thinner for initial cleanup.

Many years ago I had the cadmium plating redone and I polished the valve cover (by hand - no machines).  Other than that no real secrets.  I guess the key was maintaining it from the start - I owned the car for 36 years.

Vince:  Nice to finally see your engine comopartment.  It looks great!  Is the firewall pad original? It almost looks like the later 280 style pad whoch is more durable than the 230/250 pad. What is the VIN number?

Peter - It is the later pad.  I replaced the pad in the early 70's and that is what M-B was selling at the time.  The chassis number is 113.043-10-001543.
