hello, and introduction
« on: September 07, 2003, 18:16:30 »
Hi, I'm Jim Rosenthal, in Annapolis, Maryland, not a Pagoda owner yet, but shopping enthusiastically and may have found the right one out West. Had a 250SL with 280SL engine years ago, but it had serious rust problems and I elected to sell it and look for a better one later on. This Forum and similar ones have been a wealth of information on what to look for in a Pagoda, so if I get the wrong one I will have done so in spite of my best efforts.     My friend Mark Ingino told me about this web site and I am duly grateful to him.
I have several other MB cars; a 1985 300CD, smoke silver/henna, a former Florida garage queen which was my daily driver for years and is now retired, and a 71 300/6.3, moss green metallic/black, a recent addition, which is up with Neil Dubey at Star Motors in NY getting sorted out. And a old-style Mini-Cooper. And a Ferrari Mondial T cabriolet. And a GT40 under construction. So I have the disease bad, but at least there are fellow patients to enjoy it with...

Welcome Jim. I've spent a lot of time in Annapolis. Was a former AYC member, but living in Philly made it silly to continue my membership. My mother-in-law lives in Annapolis and runs What's Up magazine.

Sounds like some fun cars. My father has a garage full of 6.9 and 6.3 parts in Potomac, MD he has been trying to sell. If you need something for your engine restoration, I may be able to help. He's a car junkie as well. I inherited the 280SL, but he still has a 450SEL 6.9, 2 928s and a 512TR. You'd probably get along.

Rosenthal Automotive Group? Speaking of Potomac, MD, try Cherner Classics out there - it seems the always have one or two leads on 113's.

Hello Jim,
Welcome. I'm also an Annapolitan but my 280 is the only car I own that anyone else would car about. I know of at least 2 other Pagodas in the area. Your friend Mark's, mine, and another guy I met at a light on Spa road are all red and black. I've seen a white one driving around but have not yet tracked down the owner. There are also several members of this list in Washington and couple in Penn. Maybe some day in October we could all descend upon the Old Stein Inn and celebrate the hobby in a manner that creators of the Pagoda could appreciate.

Yes, I would love to see a garage full of 6.3/6.9 bits. Known as M100 cars for the millimeter size hole they make in your wallet when they break...mine is up at Neil Dubey's Star Motors in upstate NY getting the "nickel and dime" problems out of it. I got the car through Neil, it had plenty of headaches that were a surprise to both of us, and he has very decently stepped up to fix them, splitting the expense. Meanwhile, I have Neil's '67 Pontiac GTO here, which uses even more fuel than the 6.3 does...
I found a nice Pagoda out West through Roy Spencer's site; a '69 280SL, 4spd, 571H red poly with cognac leather, still owned by the original family that bought it. We are arranging payment and delivery as of now; I hope to have it late September or early October, so as not to miss the fall Pagoda-driving weather.
There is also a beige-gray 113, brown interior, that I have seen in town, maybe my favorite color for these cars, but I haven't been able to speak with the owner. A local get-together for 113 owners would be great, lots of fun and a chance for me to learn some stuff.
