Hello everyone! I'm new to this site and really glad I found it, as everything I've read thus far is super informative and educational. My name is John, 52 years old, and live in Los Cabos Mexico but am originally from the State of Texas in the USA. As I can finally afford this beautiful example of a car that I fell in love with back when I was a kid, I now find myself in the process of buying my first 280 SL and would greatly appreciate any suggestions before I put my money on the table. The car is a 1971 model with approximately 65,000 original documented miles, original interior and exterior, no accidents or rust. My understanding is that it belonged to a collector of fine automobiles who bought it new, never removed the hardtop and kept it in a climate controlled storage building along with the other fine cars in his collection, and originally was meant as a gift for his wife. Anyway, I am scheduling a bumper to bumper inspection of the car, as well as performing a compression check, at a near-by Mercedes dealership and would appreciate whatever advice on what to tell the dealership to check for, ie., air conditioning, suspension, differencial, fluid levels, timing, brakes, etc. I will be setting up the inspection for next Tuesday (September 16) and would greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thanks and I'm glad and excited about becoming a member of this forum.
