soft top woes

Okay, so I had help and we took off the hardtop. First time in YEARS it had been examined, much less used <G>.
The "tonneau cover" which I think is the name for the soft top cover (where it hides?)yesterday was behaving perfectly. We turned the crank behind the driver's seat and voila up it popped so we could look at the soft top condition. The soft top was unbelievably dirty, but in *serviceable* condition. We pulled it up and looked it all over, then carefully put it down. Everything went away nicely, but we struggled a bit to get the hard cover down & locked into place.Lots of pushes. And finally it was locked.

Now comes the question- today- the crank for the cover release just spins, can't seem to catch, so we couldn't access the soft top.
Wheee- just glad it wasn't raining!
Is there a way to POP this cover manually incase this happens in the future? Might the screw inside this handle/release have become "stripped" somehow. Strong guys were helping, and may have turned it way too much.
Yikes. If it is- who can repair this for me.
Thanks for your patience with this girly-novice. Any assistance will be very appreciated.

Do a search on soft top latch or softtop stuck and you will find that you are not the only person that has had this happen to them.   The problem can be solved by accessing the latch mechanism through a small hole in the trunk under the storage area for the top.  If you have trouble after reading the other posts please let us know and we can go into more detail if needed.

Good luck
