New Poster, help required
« on: August 26, 2007, 04:58:29 »
I have recently purchased a 1969 sl 280,

Need a little help, the car is minus its drivers handbook, my radio original and the dash boards light do not work.

Does any one have a drivers handbook copy or a wiring diagram for the fuse box.

Thanks

Tom

Welcome to the group.  Here is a search I did on wiring diagram that might be helpful:

I guess you have already checked for blown fuses-if all your dash lights are out, that could be the issue.  There is almost always a fuse diagram located behind the fuse cover,

Welcome! Fuse #7 is in the circuit for the dash lamps and right side parking lamps.  If the parking lamps work properly I would look at the dash dimmer control as the likely source of the lighting problem.  You can search this site for details on the issue.  Turn your head lights on and spin the dash lighting control knob back and forth to see if you can get the instrument lamps to flicker or light.

The radio lights up when the set is turned on, there is a small bulb below the green dot behind the dial pointer.

there is not a light in the radio connected to the instrument lamps.

Also check the reostat dimmer knob on the center instrument pod, jiggle the knob and see if the lights flicker.
