Pagoda on the Cover
« on: October 04, 2008, 13:49:49 »
I just got the September issue of Mercedes Enthusiast (published in the UK). There is a Pagoda on the cover and an article in the magazine about restoration shop in the UK. I have not had a chance to read through it yet, but wanted to let you all know about it.

It's a "Silchester Pagoda".

Not everyone here has had a great experience with Silchester Garage but it's a nice write-up.

Thanks. I'll look out for it.  The Pagoda is also on the cover of Classic Cars Magazine (www.classiccarsmagazine.co.uk) November Issue.  The cover says "Don't miss out on this appreciating statement of style".

It is interesting that the author's view is that the 280sl's are the best, then the 250sl's and then the 230sl's.  Reasons cited were mainly mechanical and engineering...

Everytime I go flying, I always pick up a classic car mag at the airport as a ritual - luckily I'm off to Zürich on Tuesday and can't wait...

Last Saturday I was at the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. While waiting for my flight I always take a look at the (car) magazines in the newsstand. Apparently just like Ulfi.

Of course I had to buy the Classic Car magazine. It's a nice article of seven pages about the Pagoda, but most of it we already know.

If someone is interested in the article and isn't able to buy this issue, I could it send to you. I have made a color scan in PDF-format. The 3 megabyte file is too large to post here, but just send me an email and you will receive it shortly.

Choose your Mercedes Pagoda SL

While other classics have ramped up in price, the Mercedes-Benz SL Pagoda has seen more discreet increases. That makes it a better choice than ever for those who value quality and subtle elegance over showmanship

Ah but they blaspheme....

280 is the one to have although 250 rarity value helps keep prices high.

They drove a 230 manual, no PS and sort of hated it - compared to the manual/PS 250 and Auto/PS 280...

And the values they quote are top - £50k+ is top dealer price for a car.  Especially as there's no bankers left to buy them

The signal red car on the cover is the late Roger Edwards personal car.

Was this issue of classic cars UK just released? I have a borders near me and I did not see it on the stand, if it has a picture of a Pagoda you know I will pick it up and investigate.
Not sure if it is a October or November issue?

It came out here at the end of last month. So the cover says November!
