« on: July 15, 2004, 14:53:13 »
Can anyone help where is the relay for blinkers my U.S import
won't flash also my bonnet (hood) stay arm keeps snapping back against
bodywork should I replace it or can they be fixed? apart from
these two small things my 1969 280sl is cool.

Thanks Pagoda Red

Flasher relay should be under the dash near the steering column, mounted on a sheet metal bracket. Hazard flasher relay is together with the hazard switch I believe.
Does your bonnet have a check strap to limit how far the bonnet will open?

Also, keep in mind that a lot of US-spec cars don't have the brights (hi-beam headlights) hooked up to the turn signal/wiper stalk. It was some kind of federal regulation over here at the time.

Red Kelly hi I think someone may have taken off your hood and forgot to use a bungee hook to hook the prop rod properly in order to keep it from snapping back against the bodywork. No big deal get a bycycle bungee end piece (hook) and atttach it to the hole right next to it after you wind in tension like an airplane propeller. There is a small hole in the side lip of the hood that will accept the bungee hook...after you wind in the tention attach the hook to keep it wound until you can mount the hood. All you need is the hook discard the bungee and other hook. It is hard to explain but easy to do call or write me if you have problems.

Thanks all, for your advice I'm not sure I understand the bonnet
instruction but will give it a go.

In reply to my topic about flasher relay, after running around
town and down the highway for a couple of days the flashers started working again for no reason, maybe just disuse while in transit from the states in the container for a month. but thanks for the posts guys
still not fixed the bonnet stay, should it have a strap to retain it
cos mine hasn't got one.
