Vinyl on soft top cover
« on: September 18, 2007, 13:03:27 »
I'm finally getting to the vinyl on my repainted '65 230SL and need to know if the vinyl on the soft top cover has any padding.  Mine didn't but I'm not sure if that is correct or not.

Thanks!

Jim,
there was a layer of thin foam (perhaps 5 mm thick) under the MB-Tex on my 230SL but most of it was crumbled except in places where there had been enough glue to keep it there.
When I changed to leather I put a layer of high-temp polyurethane foam underneath again because it helped to get the leather to look smoother around the curves.

Alfred,

Thanks!  I felt that my old vinyl looked a little flat.
