HELP.What a delema !
« on: October 21, 2007, 14:40:22 »
I have just purchased a very presentable 113 280 SL .Ex South African car with little or no chassis decay (RUST) having only a single garage I will have to sell my R107 300 SL much to my better judgment .Does anyone out there have a solution ? building another garage is not an option unless its on top of the existing one. (double decker garages is there a market for these) Any way your thoughts would be most appreciated ,although I expect slightly biased towards the Pagoda . Many thanks Colin @Edinburgh

You can make a taller garage and buy one of those hoists that lift one car out of the way while leaving room to drive the second car in under the first. Here is one link I found:  http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/Car_Hoist.html

The lift is an absolutely great solution if you have the overhead room.  It will be an invaluable tool for maintenance.  It will also lead to meeting other car guys who need to get their cars off the ground for one procedure or other.

Convert a spare bedroom to garage. My neighbor added a room in front of his garage where the driveway was. The back-wall of that new garage has a metal roll-up door. Behind it he keeps his collector's vehicle.

i have a lift and its a wonderful solution.  I do no work on my cars and with the proclivity for some fluid or another dropping down to the car below i would suggest not geting a service lift but rather a solid floor lift.  You do need clearance yet with smaller (read lower cars), youd be surprised how easily you can stack two cars.  You need electric and be aware roll up doors and electric door openers compromise clearance
