Throttle linkage stop??
« on: November 29, 2007, 21:14:59 »
Hello,

Just lubing the throttle linkage system today, and noticed that I am getting a metallic clunk when the linkage is suddenly released (like taking your foot off the gas quickly).  I think what is hitting is the  end of the rod that goes down from the bulkhead and attaches to a round rubber connector that goes forward to the linkage under the exhaust manifold (actually it is probably the metal outside of the round rubber connector that is hitting).  Is there supposed to be a rubber buffer somewhere in the system to limit linkage movement and prevent this contact??  If not, is some part of the linkage supposed to limit the closing motion of the linkage??

Any suggestions would be appreciated....  I assume that it is not supposed to be hitting.  Car runs fine except for the noise.....

The stops are at the butterfly for the air and the FI pump for the gas.   See JA's linkage adjustment tutorial.  Lube the bushing under the manifold, crossovers and the ball ends.

I think if the engine mounts are saggy, the linkage adjustment to the accelerator will be out.

I had the vertical connecting linkage that goes down from the upper linkages to the lower lever to the accelerator pedal, actually using the inlet manifold as a stop.
This made it impossible to adjust the air fuel mixture.

After eliminating all the play in the cross rod and the ball and socket connections, replacing the engine mounts and setting the linkages correctly the vertical rod is now about 0.5 mm away from the inlet manifold and the car is now correctly adjusted.
