Undercoating

Working with my bodyshop and doing some pre-planning...

What undercoating is currently recommended by the group?

What undercoating can they use on my resto that drys to a "hard" type finish and is paintable?  I am hoping it comes close to the original look, drys to a semi-hard finish, and can be painted body color.

Bob, Bruce is a really nice guy that will take time out to discuss certain issues with you.  Very well repected in the 190sl and MB community.

I wasn't aware Bruce sold the business.  I guess this is the second one he sold out? The first was Sports Leicht restorations?

I dont plan on Winters, salt, etc..  but will be driving it on nice days, to car shows, and to Ohio every 2 years for the Pagoda meet at Joes.  I need to ensure the underside is protected from rocks, etc.

So, hopefully I can find a nice paintable undercoating and closely match the original look.

If you like the look of that stuff, the root beer colored stuff.  Over the years, the previous owner of my car removed the factory stuff and just kept the underside washed and clean and tended to matters as they arose.  I agree with him, I like the clean look better.  This car (250 SL) has 150K miles on it and has not been "restored," just impeccably maintained.  I know there are paints you can get that have compounds that are more resistant to road hazards.

My fully restored 190 SL from Bruce Adams does not have undercoating.
