Now squeeze them together by pushing on the wrench heads, compressing the spring until the handles overlap inside the body of the spring. Now with the glovebox closed, insert the wrench ends ] into the slots in the hinge arms. The wrench handles should stay overlapped and the spring should stay compressed with the glovebox closed. Done correctly, there should be enough tension on the gloveboxe hinge to make it difficult to open when the glovebox is not attached to the car. If you are bending the spring or the wrench handles do not overlap you are doing something wrong.

If your spring forms an angle, it probably means your spring is bent. If it is, then you cannot get it to work properly and you'll need a new spring. I speak from experience.
SLS sells the springs for around €9 (article nr 168071 - Glove box closure spring, in section 68.a).
Generally, the search function is your friend, and check the Technical Manual also before posting a question. Most of the questions we can think of have already been asked in the past!
