Spare tire boot
« on: December 23, 2007, 09:32:53 »
Does anyone know if there was a modification made by Daimler-Benz 69-70' that changed the spare wheel stand/holder so that it could except the new option alloy wheels (bunt cake wheels).  I currently have the orig. steel wheels on and want to convert to the alloy wheels, (including the spare), but the alloy spare wheel and tire will not fit into the trunk space with the orig. spare wheel holder.  There is not enough clearance to do so, and the hold down looks like it will not be compatable with the alloy wheel.  Does anyone with a 280SL that has alloy wheels also have their spare an alloy?
Thanks for any advise on this matter.

I believe there is a difference in the height of the mounting post.  There should be more info on this subject that has been discussed before.
