My guess is that the 220D SL must of had a diesel engine transplant.

Correct - Watler put a 220D engine in a W113 SL body. I don't know what to call it:

A few months ago there was a toolkit for a 600 Grand on eBay. This particular kit was in new condition with some of the tools wrapped in wax paper. Although not correct for a W113 I feel it wouldn't look all that out of place. Extra tools along with a hammer to boot! You can never havee enough of the right tools.

Sedan and early 230SL tool kits mounted with slots in the bag to the back section of the trunk below the trunk lid opening. There was also a holder fot the tire alignment tool place in a simular fashion. Later 1966 and on W113 had tool wrap kits in the spare tire wrap. when opening the tire rap there is a pocket for the lug wrench and below a pocket for the tire alignment tool.
It is sad that most of these kits got lost or misplaced I had to hunt down a correct tool kit with the famous fuse pliers and fuse box with MBZ logo. the wraps as tey ere called were mad out of spare MBZ tex or soft top canvas. An real tool rap will have a green materical inside and the Mercedes-Benz star in bosed in black on the inside. They are far and few left to fine.Two difference jacks were availible an early Bilstein two peice jack and later one peice jack found on 108 and 109 sedans.A tire crock was bolted below the spare as well to place in front or back of the front tires to protect from rolling back.
An optional emergency tool kit pouch was availible from local dealers which included several small wrenches and a tool to lube door hinges as well as a factory tire gauge in a blue box with the star logo. this was seeen in the optional equipment blue cataloge.
Some of these tools can be purchased from German speciality tool houses and sellers you just have to know whatto ask for. the orgianal tools had the Mercedes-Benz stamp andor star imbosed in the wrench, but many of these tools are the same and maufactured by companies like stalwille.
I hope this is formation is help fulland I will try and post pictures with a new ditical camera as soon as I figure how to reduce the size.

The one tool that always seems to be missing from the bag are the water pump pliers. I have two complete kits sans pump pliers. I understand that Stamstag sells these.

Has anyone purchased this tool from Stamstag and if so how close is it to the original?

I did purchase one of the water pump pliers from Samstag, and aside from being a bit shiny, it was a good replacement. I am traveling for the Holiday, and can't give you a direct picture or comparison, but I would say they are a very good alternative.

Johnny B was nice enough to bring in all sorts of materials at the Blacklick event. There was tons of literature along with two toolkits. I looked at the pliers but do not remember the manufacturer.

The hammer is probably the last resort in getting things to work properly.

Wasn't the 600 dubbed something like "the mechanics playground"?

The water pump lliers is made by Heyco and stamped N300 Chrome silver natural color. The only difference is when Mercedes-Benz put it in the tool roll it had a small star on it. same company.
I cannot seem to fine these from the Heyco file I have but prehaps Andrew at Samsag sales may have some left over in inventory. they sold for aqbout $34.00 USD

One of the International Stars members, Murdoch "Doc" Campbell was a former MBCA National President. He once had a 600 and said if you have one you really need your own mechanic--full time.

I believe Hazet also made that tool. Generally speaking, you're going to find Hazet tools in a W113.

I talked to Andrew at www.samstagsales.com . The water pump pliers is still availible and can be found by going to the BMW tools under trunk tool kits part # 71 11 1 103091 heyco type 300 9/1/2 inches long cost is $27.95 plus shipping.
Do not worry it will not say BMW on the tool.

If you want the star on the pliers I founnd the same water pump pliers in the Mercedes-Benz tools section part # 0005810238 $35.00 each same pliers except with Mercedes-Benz star inbosed into pliers.

Received my water pump pliers from Andrew at samsag sales. This is the one with star imbossed on it made by Heyco.Their really is no difference between the Heyco 300 you buy direct from Heyco. with the exception of packaging. The One Mercedes-Benz puts the star logo on cost about $8.00 more just for a tiny star no one will ever see.
The pliers referred to as combination pliers came in the orginal Mercedes-Benz bag with the Mercedes-Benz blue lable and part# A 000 581 02 38 Whoppie!!! show that to the judges and I do not think you get much of a responce.
Heyco makes quality tools so if you are missing yours , just order the Heyco brand from Samsage sales with out the star and use the $7.00 to buy you self a capachino down at the local Star bucks next time you take you Pagoda out for a Sunday spin.
