Dampner

Hi All,

Sorry, have a dumb questions (2 dumb questions...)
1.  What is the purpose of the rubberized coating on the rear of the dampner?  Is it needed?
2.  Does the dampner need to be installed exactly as removed (like the balancer for timing...)

Reason that I am asking is that I plan on having it powder coated.

The function of a damper is to dampen torsional vibrations in the crankshaft. It usually consists of a metal hub, an inertial element, and an elastomer sandwiched in between (what you're referring to as rubber). The elastomer does the damping.

Thanks for the claification.

I looked again at this dampner and it indeed is rubber sandwiched inbetween the metal.

Not a candidate for powder coating !

I will hand sand, prep and paint on the bench.
