Hood Bumpers
« on: February 04, 2008, 20:49:11 »
The part of the hood that closes near the firewall has two holes on each side. I have seen photos of cars with a small round bumper in the lower of these holes.

Eyeballing where the hood closes, this bumper doesn't seem to touch any part of the car...what is the purpose of this bumper?

Should there be a bumper in just the lower hole or did both holes originally have bumpers?

Hey Richard. My hood has one hole, on the driver's side. I don't believe anything ever belongs in the hole. The rubber bumpers are located in the corners of the engine bay where the hood corners hit. Hope this makes sense.

My hood also has these holes with what appears to be of a smaller diameter.

Might they be drains?

James is the close, they are drain holes for the original painting process where the entire car body was submersed in a vat of electrostatic charged primer before the car was sanded and painted.
I imagine the hood would have been dipped seperatly from the body, and that is why the drains are at the top not the bottom of the hood.
