Hello All!

The resto of my 113 is moving along, slowly, which I am glad...
I am still trying to decide on a color...
My interior is cognac, so choices are somewhat limited.
I have had the bodyshop order several samples of paint and paint color swatches for me to look at, holding them up to the interior pieces for comparison (signal red 568; light ivory 670; dark blue 904; white grey 158).  All of these colors are really nice, but having trouble with the cognac color coordination...

I keep coming back to the 670 light ivory color as one of the best matches with the interior.

Did anyone see the recent "Star" magazine with the 220SE 670 light ivory?  On the cover page the 670 looks to me more on the white side.  On the inside, along with the article, it shows a profile of the 220SE and the thing looks yellow!  I realize that lighting plays a key role in this, and also printing on paper, and variances on computer monitors.  That's why I am asking this group on the reality.  Does the light ivory appear white or yellow?

Anyone out there with 670 light ivory?  Could you please email a pic or 2 of your car?  Or post the pics?  If you have 670 along with the cognac that would be a plus!

Bob,

I saw the cabrio at the Pittsburgh Vintage GP this summer. It is hard to describe the color in words, but I would say it was more to the light creamy tan, with just perhaps a hint of yellow. It is a gorgeous color.

Bob, I too have the 670 ivory-yellowish color on my 280sl, I agree with your assessment that the color sometimes looks too yellow, seems to depend on how the light hits it. Mine however has the black interior with the black hard top. My 5 year old daughter nicknamed the car "the bumblebee", so if the healthy unbiased eye of a 5 year old sees yellow, then there is definitely some yellow. I should mention that the car has been resprayed at some point and the matched touch-up paint I bought seems more beige less yellow than finish on car. I will post pics as soon as I find digital camera. I think it is a classy color personally, but not my favorite.

What was your original color? I try to remember it was 181 (light beige). Is that correct?
Why don't you perhaps keep that? It doesn't look bad and is very similar to 670 or 158.
I once saw an Euro 280 SL with light beige paint (181) and cognac leather (SL Day in Speyer, 2003) - it looked great.

Just my 2 cents...

Can anyone verify if the Pagoda shown on the back of the July 2007 Pagoda World is the correct light ivory 670 or is it O50 white?

Bob, have you ruled out the various shades of green? I have seen some w/cognac that looked quite nice.

Hey DZ. Can't say for sure, but the PW shot looks almost 717 (papyrusweiss) to me. Although the lighting gives it some yellow on the driver's side.


And I just noticed inside that very Pagoda World are some color examples including 670. It looks sehr yellow in that one.

In order to make the color more exact, does anyone know how I can find out the exact color formula mix (ie, % of white vs % of yellow, etc...)  What percentages of each color pigment make up 670 light ivory?

I just put a call into the Classic Center in CA to ask, but had to leave a msg.

Any thoughts on this, ideas?

Isnt that one of our members car on the back of the July 2007 Pagoda World?  Isnt that 670 light ivory?

I found this on the 190sl website....



This label indicates that 670 equals:
99.6 parts white
.2 parts dark yellow (what is ocker?)
.2 parts yellow/green
tropfen (drops?) black ---  how many drops???

Can anyone else help me with the translation?

everything you translated is correct, but to be precise "Gew.-T" is parts on a weight basis (not volume), and "ocker" = "ochre" in English, but I doubt that this will help you much.
My painter had a data base (provided by the paint manufacturer) in which he could look up the required composition of any Glasurit paint to match his line.  I am surprised that yours can't do something similar.

Guys.... visit the Technical Manual, the section on Paints... http://www.sl113.org/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=DataCard.PaintCodes.

There you'll find links to the suppliers of the paints, and specifically Glasurit's Color-Online tool.

Click on that link, enter your paint code, and a number of formulations for this colour will be available to you or your supplier, depending on which paint series you use as a basis. For instance, using Glasurit line 55 paints the modern formulation would be:

My opinion, Signal Red repaints on SL's have been waaay over-done.
Grey white to light ivory, not enough difference to make it worth the bother.
Dunkel Blau, one of my favorites, but not a good combo with a Cognac interior,
Cognac would coordinate best with neutral to warm colors, and was used a lot with the green shades.
Two of my favorites w/ cognac are Tobacco Brown (423) or Tunis Beige metalic (467?).

My free advise, at least you get your money's worth.

I took the paint info from Peter's post below to the bodyshop this morning on the way to work...

I was lucky that the paint supplier just happen to be at the bodyshop.  I gave her the info and she was going to have a sample mixed up today.

Looking forward to seeing how the color turns out on the sample.  

Will update post with findings as I learn more....

Just a little side note to this thread... I just received a hub cap and rim I won on Ebay. (sorry if I beat out any of you all -- I needed a 5th rim for the verticle spare). Good deal -- nice item. Anyway, I think it is the 670 -- and is really very pretty. Next week it will become 332 Dunkleblau. But I just wanted to tell Bob. Your car will be beautuful...

Hauser, nice color options that you mentioned.  I did consider these also, especially the blue.

But, I have locked in on 670 light ivory.  I have a color sample, just need to snap a pic and post it.  The color is not white, not yellow....just a nice "classic ivory".  I think it will look nice with the cognac and is very close to what the car originally came with.  So maybe the "sin" of the color change wont be so bad for the next owner.... if I ever sell...

I would testify to both!   I have a 250se (w111) coupe with dark green 268 exterior and cognac interior.  My first 230sl has moss green metallic exterior with tan/bamboo interior.

The "featured car" piece on this site is pretty old so we don't tend to look at it often, but it does feature my car wearing its 670 Light Ivory color.
