As Shvegel has said-Leave the mount on, put the bushing in the 10/12mm hole in the mount, use a 4/5 mm drill down the center on the broken stud, tap the hole with a left hand tap, extract.  ??? 8)  8)

Glennard,

Well said, sir. But I don't have the screw extractors or associated bushings. Just left handed drill bits. I suppose I could find something to centre the drill bit - but nothing springs to mind.  I will check the net again for tap and die sets.

Get a 1/4" or 5/16" aluminum rod that will fit thru the mount, cut it off flush, drill thru it to the stuck stud.  You got yourself a bushing.

I'm currently overhauling my 1965 220S M180 and ran into a similar problem. One of the generator/alternator studs was broken and my instructor welded a nut on the broken stud and I was able to extract it. Now I need to get a new stud. I also have two missing engine mount studs so I also need them as well.

Thanks
