I have five (5) keys and 2 will not work for me. I know there is a nice write up in the Technical Manual (and I've read it).

My doors will not lock with the key I have (mine is not a one key system) I have keys for the ignition, glove box, doors, trunk and the gas cap. Only my ignition, gas cap and trunk keys are working. I know Dan (Benz Dr.) mentioned last time I was at his shop that the door mechanisms can properly be repaired etc. Problem is Dan is so busy and with harvest work on his farm he will even be more so.

I don't like anyone near my car other then Dan :) and was thinking to ask if any of you fellows had similar door lock problems?

or

Have any of you installed a Central Door Locking System on your car? If so what was the approx. cost and time required for the job?

Love to hear your feedback ... I have reservations now to go to the Concours of America at St. Johns at the end of this month without being able to lock my doors at night. Sleeping in the car is not an option  ;D Hate to come back to the car in the morning and have parts missing ... we all know what they cost to replace.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Update ... was successful this past week to fix my drivers door lock mechanism and got the key to work. So I shall keep my keys and locks stock. This winter I shall attack the passenger side and the glove compartment. Meanwhile I can manual lock my passenger door from the inside and the driver side from the outside with the key.

Success sweet success :) nothing like it ...

My driver's door will not lock from the inside. Any tips?

Thank you!

Lin,
I had the same problem with my 280SL. I had to take off the door panel and the lock mechanism and made an adjustment to the mechanism at the door handle. I had to take out the opposite door and look at why it worked to figure what my drivers door needed. It took a while and a bunch of trial and error but works great now. I spent allot of time thinking the mechanism was broken but, it was all adjustment. Wish I could be more help.

Lin,

In my case there was a rod connection missing between the small inside lock handle and the key mechanism. We manufactured a new one and re-connected it to fix it. If your inside handle [(the small one) not the one you open the door with from the inside] is loose i.e. flaps back and forth compared the way the one in the passenger side feels. Then your problem might also be the connecting rod I described earlier is loose or missing. You can only be sure once you remove the inside panel (if you do don't loose any of the tiny screws).

Thanks Gentlemen,
I expected that removal of the door panel, and perhaps both, would be required. I think I will save it for a Winter project!

Hi Rolf, I have central locking installed by T & D Heaney in Ireland as part of
work they did but don't know cost or make. It works very well.
