Keep in mind there was also a rear-window defogger option (rear glass has a wire filaments, and hardtop has dangling wire which needs to be connected whenever hardtop is on). If your old hardtop has this option, keep it! This option is hard to find in my experience. If one of the tops you're looking at has this, then get it.
In any case, I read somewhere that stripping a hardtop for re-paint is very time-consuming (= costly), so count on this. Or do what the previous owner of my red pagoda did: the only replacement hardtop he could find was black and so he decided to make his car two-tone! (painted hubcaps was all that was needed).
