Richard Vezeau's health update
« on: January 18, 2008, 13:32:59 »
I received an emal from Val, Richards's wife, this morning and he's in an Ottawa hospital awaiting open heart surgery. I'll include the letter he sent for all to read.
Richard came to help me last spring and has been here every year for the past 3 or 4. Even though it's a 10 hour car drive in the middle of winter he still made the effort. Friends like this hard to find and mean a lot to me. Let's all wish him well.
As of this afternoon the phone was not working but I think it will be hooked up tonight.

Hi All
I’m sending a general email to all those concerned, as I don’t have internet
access at the moment, Erica has brought me in her laptop and will send this
out for me.

I’m presently at the Ottawa Heart Institute, resting and waiting for bypass
surgery. For those who don’t know I have 3 blockages in my coronary
arteries, which made themselves evident near the middle of Nov. and
gradually escalated to an obvious heart problem just after new years, though
I have not actually suffered a heart attack or any muscle damage, which is
the good news. My condition is stable and I’m not currently in any pain.

The help and care here is amazing, the staff all go the extra mile to make
it easier to cope with and accept the state that I’m in and to know there
isn’t any other place to be with a heart problem. Since my situation is
generally good, I have to be patient and wait for surgery, when the surgery
team feels that it’s my turn. They assess their priorities daily and
naturally, more urgent cases go sooner. The expectation is that patients are
usually in surgery within 7 to 10 days and then 3 to 5 days in recovery, but
a cancellation could see me attended to sooner, since I’m in otherwise good
health and ready to go. For now I have to rest, stay healthy and bide my
time, catch up on some reading and watch some movies ;-)

I want to thank everyone for all the good wishes.  It is a great comfort to
have friends reach out to me and my family. We have so much to be thankful
for. Val is staying at Erica’s much of the time, which is just down the
street, and her days here with me. I’m expecting to be moved to a different
floor tomorrow, so won’t give the phone number for this room, but a call to
the main desk would get you connected. 6137985555

For those that don't know, the Richard Vezeau of this post is known as "Ricardo" here on the forum.

That's the trouble with these stage names...sometimes when it is important to know, you are at a loss.

Ricardo, we wish you the best.  You are too young for heart troubles (as Dr. Benz was too young for his issues, too)!!

Actually, he's older than me ( 53 )and I think he's about 55. It makes me aware of my own problems and that we're all getting older and some of us will face similar health problems one day - it's just a fact of getting older.
For those who don't know Ricardo, he has a '67 250SL that's in need of paint but is an otherwise solid car. He lives about an hour north of Ottawa in Quebec.

I'll try calling him tonight.

Is he the guy who looks like a French street artist?  Maybe it was the hat I saw him wearing at Dan's, but I aways picture him painting along the riverside in Paris!

I have had some health scars of my own. 55 years young is not old any more. It is just the second half of life when your brain puts all the things you learned in your other life together and  calles it wisdom. The ability for adults like us to make complicated decisions and make sence of it all.

Richard had the operation on Monday morning. I haven't talked to any of his family but he seems to be doing OK.
He won't be chopping wood for awhile......

Hello Friends
Yes it's true, I'm the guy with the funny hat and not even a real Ricardo....I'm of French/Dutch Canadian descent, but I thought we were supposed to have "handles" when we joined a club  :D
Many folks currently on the list won't know me as I stopped posting about 8 months ago after getting dressed down by a member (with a stable of collectables) who took me to task for getting off topic, I guess and somehow I lost my desire to add my voice. I still come here most everyday and I'm glad to see so many familiar faces. I'm a little embarrassed that Dan told y'all of my health woes, but I sure do appreciate the good wishes. The timing was actually as good as could be, my car is still stashed for the winter and I can't drive for 8 weeks or so....should be just about right....in the meantime I'll contemplate building a TARGA rally car from the '67 250SE I bought last fall and try to finish refreshing the Ford 8N tractor I started in Oct. Life is good and I've learned that friends are the true rewards......

Richard,

Good to hear from you! Never be swayed by being "dressed down" by forum members. This is a congenial crew and anyone who behaves otherwise is not representative of the group. We all look forward to your comments in the future.

I think I remember this episode, I certainly remember the cars. If I remember correctly this person had a poor grasp on English or at least an unfortunate tone which personally I thought was quite amusing and actually I think he/she was dressed down and has he /she made a posting recently? I don't think so. In fact, I seem to recall feeling a little embarrassed at the way the poster was treated as the posts were funny..in a way. If only I could remember the name. Are you out there collector?

glad to hear you're on the mend. Take car of yourself.

Hmm. I'm not sure I understand PPP, but Nick is right, I think Ami was ganged up on a little and I feel sorry for...forgive me Ami, are you a man or a woman ( or both ? ) him/her. I thought he was hilarious and although perhaps difficult to comprehend, it does take all sorts. So Ami, if you are reading this, post some PPP and make me laugh.

Hello Recardo,

It is good to know that you are recovering well. The Pagoda People group is soo much more than just about the cars. Things that can seem a little "abrasive" are usually just a result of mis-understandings or mis-communication. Even though many of us have never met, others who have met you, fondly show their respect and admiration for you!
