Clean/Clear Haze/Fog form Gauge Glass

Can anyone tell me the best manner to remove and clean/clear the haze/fog on my tach and center gauge fixture?  Both have been foggy/hazy for years.  I have both removed from the dash and ready for cleaning but can't figure out how to remove the glass.  Help?

Hey Steve. Welcome aboard. I believe the only way to get to the other side of the glass is to carefully pry off the bezel. You might want to wait for another response since I have actually never done it!

I have done it recently, all 3 guages, and yes you need to carefully open up the bezel with tiny tools like a jewelers screwdriver. You don't need to open the entire bezel all the way around, but just enough to release the glass. The knob on the center cluster comes off with the glass so don't try to pull it off separately.

You are real gentlemen.  I will give it a try.  The center cluster looks easier, The tach scares me a little.  I'll report back after.

I've done the center instrument and the tach in the manner described (the speedo is relatively new). It's really easy and after you clean the glass, you can refit the bezel carefully so that when the instruments are refitted, there's not a trace of the procedure.

Update...

With the steady hand of a nervous watchmaker I slowly started to pry away the bezel, and ..... it worked!!!  I repeated the process for the tachometer, and can now enjoy looking at the faces of 2 VERY CLEAR, original instruments.

Without your notes from your experience I would NEVER have tried this.  I was OK removing the instruments, but opening them up was a heart wrenching thought.  THANKS!!!!

Now, if a little oil on the tach and grease on the tach cable solves the squeal I will feel like I've fixed the world's problems.  At least this one for now.
