doorhandle rechrome
« on: June 21, 2008, 10:45:01 »
As I want to rechrome the doorhandles I have to remove the cylinders inside. Is there a special way or trick to do so because at first sight I don't see how it's done.

A point to consider here. Your doorhandles are probably quite worn by this point, so you might be better off ordering a brand new set from Mercedes, who will make you one based on your car's VIN. The cylinder on my driver's side door broke off, so I ordered one from Mercedes. I was quite pleased that my 40 year old key was able to open the new doorhandle!

I did the same with mine... still disassembled awaiting painting.  I don't recall any unusual problem in removing them.  Seems like there was a pin that holds the whole mechanism in the handle that is driven through to remove, but it's been awhile.  Look carefully along the barrel of the lock.
