another ebay item

this one is a 1965 230sl with some big v8, the fun part is that the photo of the front of the car shows a 107 body, in the same color.

at least this conversion was done somewhat tastefully.

With all due respect if you wish to put a Chrysler Hemi in a 113 you are not "with me". My comment was not an an anti Chevy comment, it was a pro Merc comment. The 113 was an engineering marvel. What other auto in the mis 60s had the smane level of engineering. Pontiac tried to make an overhead cam engine but failed. The fuel injection on the early corvettes was not reliable.  
If you want a Hemi why not buy a Road Runner or a Charger, if you want a Chevy 8 why not a Vette, but if you want to stuff a n 8 in a 113 I suggest it would be more tastefull to use a Mercedes 8.

Could you imagine a 6.3 or 6.9 in a 113? I think I heard of someone doing a big V8 conversion out there somewhere, but even the fantasy possibilities. As Homer Simpson would say, "hmmmmm, horsepower".

I saw an article about a 280SL with a Mercedes 3.5 liter V8 put in it.  That would be good!

For those who might not know, Mercedes tested a 113 with a 6.3 in it to see how it would perform...

Update on the historic 6.3 Pagoda...

This is a new reply to an old topic.

I just met and spoke to the owner of the only remaining 6.3 experimental Pagoda made by Mercedes in the late 1960's. The owner is an airline pilot living in Hanover, Germany.

Mercedes made two prototype 6.3 Pagodas. One was wrecked in an accident some years ago.

After Mercedes completed testing, the remaining  experimental car was bought by (or given to) Erich Waxenberger, one of the Mercedes engineers who suggested installing the 6.3 in a Pagoda. The car was later bought from the engineer by a Mercedes collector in Germany. After the collector died, his 40 cars were auctioned off.

The present owner bought the historic car at the auction. He also owns another Pagoda (with original engine.) He drives the 6.3 Pagoda but says it is very difficult to drive with far too much weight in the front causing the car to handle very poorly (dangerously). He steers it very carefully.

Nice to know a part of Pagoda history is alive and living in Hanover.

Maybe a way to balance out this muscle car is to have a very heavy person drive it  :) .

Update on the historic 6.3 Pagoda...
 As far as I know, a 6.3 Pagoda was sold a few months ago in Paris after the DB collector Rolf Meyer died in a  car crash,driving his old 300 sl gullwing. Among beautiful mercedes was this examplar, sold more than 60 000 $. I just found the web page in french,but I don't know if the new owner is this german man in Hannover, probably it is... just have a look:

This 230 SL 6.3 is white with blue soft top and blue interior.
The auction catalog stress the point that the car is not easy to drive. The brake system comes from a M100 DB 600  and special gas front suspension , as well as a frigi king AC. It had run 42435 miles.
I hope this can add some historic information about that car.
