Rear Brakeline
« on: July 09, 2008, 12:57:38 »
I would like to replace my rear brakeline from the Master Cylinder to the proportioning unit off the rear axle.  Does Mercedes supply the line from the master cylinder to the proportioning unit with the end fittings attached?  I tried compression fittings and the results were less then desirable. Thanks in advance.

Mercedes still provides these brake lines with end-fittings. You will have to shape them yourself though, so keep your original (and don't warp it during removal) so you can match their shapes before fitting.

113 420 17 28 -- Early 230SL up to chassis 008143
113 420 28 28 -- Later 230SL from chassis 008144
113 420 28 28 -- 250SL and 280SL all chassis numbers (LHD)

For 250SL and 280SL all chassis (RHD), you need two lines:
113 420 29 28 (master cyl. to coupling)
113 420 19 28 (coupling to proportioning valve)

about a year ago I replaced the brake and both the fuel to and return lines on my 66 230 sl.

I was able to purchase the lines from MB as well as the metal clips and formed rubber for the lines.

It took a few test fits and fitting to get the lines in correctly.
what a huge difference in appearance and no worries about old rusty lines.

Thanks for the help in this matter.  I will get the parts at a Dealer to fix this problem.
