Wooden console felt
« on: November 09, 2008, 03:40:35 »
The internal lining of the central wooden console had a sort of spray on black felt. Mine has come off in parts and I am seeking restoration advice. Is there a aftermarket aerosol?

just the other day I saw an ad that sold the adhesive and felt for glove box restoration.

I wonder if that would work.
I will do some searches and try to find out who has the kit.
I am not sure if it was eastwood or someone else.

It sounds like this was added later, so if originality is the goal, you may want to remove this spray-on felt altogether. A 250SL should have a rectangular piece of vinyl in the wooden console that rests directly on the wood. I don't believe it's even glued on.

so here is the link

they have several colors available.

like Douglas, my 66 had a piece of interior color matched leather
that sat in the wooden center console.

Nowadays some of the restoration shops used flock.  The adhesive is applied and the flock is applied afterwards.  The flock comes out of a can similar to powder.

Yes, the flock kit looks as though it is the right stuff. My car is a late 250 SL even the base of the box had some of the flock although most of it has worn through. Then there was a small matching piece of carpet place in the base of the box
